Casa-Blanca Canal Pilot Project, a Utility-scale

Canal Solar Array over the Casa Blanca Canal in Arizona

The Casa-Blanca Canal Solar project is currently under construction on the Gila River Indian Community canals. The project is developed by the Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project P-MIP with funding support by US Bureau of Reclamation. The project is currently in phase-one construction stage at 1.3 MW nameplate size. It Construction of this first phase is located over the Casa-Blanca canal on either side of the I-10 freeway, south of Phoenix. Future phases of work involve covering the entire canal at 16 miles which would result in a 33 MWdc nameplate project size. The Solar River project design and patent by Tectonicus and prime engineer is George Cairo Engineering, construciton by native owned Straight-Arrow Contracting.

The 16 mile long Casa Blanca Canal is perhaps the most advanced canal in Arizona built on the Akimel O'odham nation, who has some of the oldest canals in the hemisphere dating back thousands of years. This canal will soon be covered and powered by Solar Panels.
