Project Scope
The Bisbee Prototype funded by the Department of energy cooperative agreement DE-SC0020022 will be used to measure and extrapolate the benefits of fully deployed CSSPs for canal owners.
Assumptions are that:
Shading from panels reduce algae and aquatic plant growth, decrease evaporation up to 50%, leading to increased water quality and quantity.
The microclimate created between the panels and water will cool the ambient air temperature, increasing the efficiency of solar panels by up to 5%.
Experimental results will allow us to further optimize our technical and economic models.
We are working on this project along with the University of Arizona’s WEST Center, UC Merced, PNNL and George Cairo Engineering.
